Shifters, vampires, paranormal creatures have always interested me. I remember telling myself that I wanted to write my own version of these things after reading Twilight a lifetime ago.
No… I’m pretty sure I wanted to write my own version of them before I read Twilight.
Regardless of the order of things, the interest has been there for a while. It wasn’t until well after high school that I actually did something with it, though.
First, I created a world of light and darkness, where monsters are truly monstrous: Ilenima. This led to eventually writing Nightshade Academy, a story about monsters trying to claw their way back to humanity.
Then I created a world of shifters, because apparently one version of the paranormal isn’t enough for me. (It probably would have been, but we can go into that another time if you’d like.) Shifters in this world (Trinity) aren’t cursed, miserable beings—though they share my monsters’ fate of having to hide from humans most of the time. There are more humans than shifters and also hunters, which unfortunately means hiding is usually safest for shifters. And witches…
Both Ilenima and Trinity are rich fantasy worlds, but Trinity was built for romance. In most cases, you wouldn’t want one of my monsters as a lover. In Trinity, Soulmates are a thing. And trust me, when you’ve found your Soulmate, that’s it. That is your person. Or persons! Ilenima technically has soulmates too, but they aren’t revered like they are in Trinity; they’re more uncommon.
I have big visions for both of these worlds, but if you want pure urban fantasy, you’ll prefer Ilenima. If you like paranormal romance, you’ll prefer Trinity. In the perfect world, you’ll love them equally!
